From a Junkshop Boy to an Engineering Dean’s Lister

Engr. Jayvee Calayag has his own Cinderella story to tell.

In a Facebook post in 2016, he shared the challenges he faced prior to finishing his electronics engineering degree at Bulacan State University. Drawing inspiration from being a former junkshop boy and coming from a family struggling to make ends meet, he graduated in his course as a Dean’s Lister in April that year.

Three years later, in 2019, he works as a Quality Engineer for a semi-conductor company and as a financial advisor on the side. With this success, he was able to provide for his family – and a new tricycle for his father. This status is significantly far from his financial situation when he was just studying engineering as he lived buying and selling scrap.

For his heartwarming story, he was featured in a TV Commercial by Bear Brand.

Worth emulating! Here is his “thank you” note in full that made him viral on Facebook:

“Nay, Tay.
Tay, Nay.
Thank you for all the SACRIFICES.
“It all started with a dream.”

Maswerte sabi ng mga Doc, pero for me, I have a mission pa;syempre sa family ko.

In God’s grace, di naman kami pinababayaan.
