Everyone’s talking about artificial intelligence as one of the biggest pillars of the future of technology, but there is no full course about it being offered here in the Philippines.
But that’s only until November 10, 2021, when the UP NEC Analytics and Data Science Certifications released on its Facebook page that the proposed new curriculum of the Master of Engineering in Artificial Intelligence is officially approved. It is the first of its kind in the country.
According to the UP Diliman Artificial Intelligence Program Facebook page, the 2-year MEng in AI program requires a bachelor’s degree from a recognized HEI which transcript of records shall be scanned, three recommendation letters from former professors or mentors, scanned PSA Birth Certificate, a recent formal photo, an application fee of P 100.00, and honorable dismissal for non-UP graduates. Foreign applications are asked for special requirements.
Students who lack courses in Intermediate Calculus, College Statistics, Computer Programming, or Linear Algebra are required to take refresher courses.
The Foundation Courses for MEng in AI are only 6 units, composed of Optimization, Statistics, Computing, and Basic Analytics; while the Core Courses involve specialized AI topics, including a capstone project that should solve an industry problem using an AI solution. Classes will be held on weekdays and weekends with some evening classes, which will be a mix of face-to-face and online setup.
As of writing, the deadline for admission for 1st Semester AY 2022-2023 is on June 30, 2022 at 12:00 AM. You may apply via this website: http://ngse.upd.edu.ph/
Fortunately, for those who lack the financial resources, the MENg in AI is covered by the ERDT Scholarship under the Department of Science and Technology Science Education Institute. Only five to ten slots will be given full scholarship for the program.
