[UPDATE] The original article was posted in November 2021 by Engineer Dee where he was able to renew without CPD units. In a recent development as of a PRC memo dated December 1, 2021, you will still be able to renew without CPD units but will be required to sign an undertaking. Read further to know more.
All licensed professionals in the Philippines are regulated by the Professional Regulatory Commission. Once you pass the licensure exam of your respective board, in my case the Board of Civil Engineering, you will be given a PRC ID as proof of license and identification. The PRC ID is government-issued identification that can be used as a valid ID for most transactions.
Thing is, the PRC ID, or what they call as the Professional ID Card (PIC) has an expiration date which is 3 years. It is renewable on the birth month of the professional.
But how do you renew your PIC? These are in the FAQs section of the PRC website; but since you are already here, please see below:
Q. How to apply for renewal of PRC license?
A. Application for renewal can be done through the PRC Online Services. Successful examinees will log on to https://online.prc.gov.ph. After printing the application form, the applicant will proceed on the appointment date and place to submit requirements.
Q. What are the requirements for renewal of professional identification cards?
- Downloaded application form
- One (1) passport size picture in white background with full name tag
- CPD units earned or you may contact cpdd@prc.gov.ph for more information.
- Special Power of Attorney and valid ID if filed through an authorized representative.
NOTE: Additional requirements maybe required by a particular Professional Regulatory Board (Certificate of Good Standing for the following Boards: Architect, Aeronautical Engineers, Customs Broker, Professional Electronics Engineers, Electronics Engineer, Electronics Technician, Geodetic Engineer, Guidance and Counseling, Interior Design, Landscape Architect, Agricultural and Biosystems Engineer, Registered Electrical Engineer, Professional Electrical Engineer, Registered Master Electrician, Real Estate Broker, Real Estate Consultant, Real Estate Appraiser, Salesperson, Respiratory Therapist, Psychologist, Psychometrician, Librarian, Mechanical Engineer, Professional Mechanical Engineer, Certified Plant Mechanic; Surety Bond for Real Estate Services.)
Q. How much is the renewal fee for professional identification card?
A. The renewal fees are the following: For professions requiring baccalaureate degree: ₱150.00 per year or total of ₱450.00 for three (3) years For professions requiring non-baccalaureate degree: ₱140.00 per year or total of ₱420.00 for three (3) years A surcharge of ₱30.00 (baccalaureate degree) and ₱28.00 (non- baccalaureate degree) is added if PIC is renewed twenty (20) days after birth month.
Q. How long will it take for a professional to claim the renewed professional identification card?
A. Renewed professional identification card is release on the chosen appointment date.
Other than these standard FAQs, please read below according to my personal experience:
Q. Do they require CPD points for Civil Engineers?
A. Yes, but you may sign an undertaking that is only available until December 31, 2021. By 2022, you will be required to renew with the earned CPD points. This is part of the Application for Professional ID Card (PIC) that will be generated (as pdf) upon successful setting of appointment.
[UPDATE] PRC now allows renewal without CPD points until December 2022. Please see memo here.
Q. Do they accept walkins for renewal?
A. Unfortunately, you will not be accommodated at any PRC renewal site without an appointment. This can be done over https://online.prc.gov.ph after creating an account there.
Q. How long does a renewal appointment take?
A. This depends on the queue at your renewal site. They do not follow the scheduled appointment so I just followed the queue. I renewed my PIC at Robinsons Galleria on November 8, and was able to get my PIC after 3 hours in line. However, when it was already my turn at the window, it only took me around 10 minutes to complete the process.

Question lang po: Yung sa 0 CPD undertaking agreement, based on the date na nagfile ka or based on kung kelan ang appointment date mo? Kase sa filing , no slot na for December since around October pa walang slot for December (the final month for 0 CPD undertaking) plus may mga dates na sarado ang PRC due to disinfections and limited capacities . Hindi sa kasalanan namin na nag file ng late. May system kase na kung kelan ka allowed mag file based on the expiration date ng license. Please enlighten my concern. Nakapag bayad nako for filing eh January 5 talaga appointment ko since no slot ang December tapos possible na may mga araw na sarado ang PRC kahit hindi holiday due to COVID concerns. I hope na I-consider ang extension since hanggang September next year ang declaration ng national public health emergency (COVID-19). Thanks po!
